Kong Stuffing Recipes
by CDT Kennel Enrichment on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 8:42pm
A well stuffed Kong toy is invaluable to dog owners and irresistible to their dogs. In the beginning you may have to let your dog smell what’s inside the Kong and play with them to engage their interest, but after a short while your dog will know that the Kong toy = tasty treats. Freezing a Kong will make it last longer, but some younger dogs may lose interest.
Here are some quick tips:
* Squeeze cheese is great to use to close the small hole in the top of the Kong so the small treats stay inside.
* Always supervise Kong toys with heavy duty chewers.
* Cottage cheese is a healthy low-fat stuffing option.
Here’s our first recipe:
Apple Pie
Apple
Plain Yogurt
Banana, mashed except one piece large enough to lay over hole
Peanut Butter
Squeeze a small piece of apple into the small hole. Fill the Kong with a small amount of plain yogurt. Add some mashed banana, more apple, yogurt and banana. End with a slice of banana and a chunk of peanut butter on the top.
