sally at the vet~update dec.19

sally update: not good news. dec. 19

For her right knee:

1. There is some evidence of screw loosening on the x ray but it is not associated with the swellings on her leg.

2. The osteotomy site (where they cut her bone for the surgery) is not completely mineralized.

3. Her knee is subluxated meaning it is not in alignment and there is concern for ligament damage.

4. Her fibula – the little bone- fracture is not healing.

5. Her TPLO surgery is in the process of healing

For her Left knee:

1. Mild arthritis.

2. Her fibula fracture has not healed together.

3. Her TPLO surgery is healed.

She wants me to have a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon. She say at this point it is very very important to preserve the implant and keep sally comfortable. So it is early saturday morning as I read this and I am trying not to freak out.

Nothing to worry about…quite yet.

Callus skin has developed over the metal causing the lumpy and bumpy part. There is part of the bone that was broken that isn’t healing quite so well (I think) and another part also not doing so well, but she wants to let the radiologist look at it and then another set of x-rays in 6-8 weeks. ( I forget all the info…TOO much info. haha) But other than that Sally is using her leg. Her front leg is bowing a lot to balance her out which really worries me about her spine. I am hoping after the holidays to call the lady who can help with that and some hydro. Will see. A little tight for funds now, so hopefully we will get some photo shoots soon and the ever so late etsy shop open.

WHEW! At least the metal is still in place.

Terrah, we love you and Sally! Honey sends big hugs and kisses to her sister from another mother. Did you call Dr. Howard yet?

Reading this update is painfully familiar. I know both of our girls are in the best, most loving, capable hands.

Is sally on Adequan? What about Horsetail?

We have paws, knees, toes, fingers, and everything else crossed. If you need a cart, you should ask the Sanctuary, Ed said they have a shed full of donated ones.

We love you girls, hang in there!!!!

We go in in January for round 3 on Hun’s left knee.

There’s a list of groups on this page, for whose help you and Sally might qualify? Hope this helps!

I do know someone who is a dog lover and an amazing painter, actually. Unfortunately she is in France for the holidays, but I will ask her as soon as she comes back! I’m pretty sure she will agree to help!
Also, I was wondering – I know of a few foundations that will help you with your vet bills in special cases. With all the money you’ve already spent for Sally’s surgeries, they might be willing to step in? Or maybe you could ask the vet who operated on her to call the specialist in Oregon and maybe get a discount for you? Just throwing ideas out there. I’ll go fish out the names of those associations who help with vet bills and post them here.

Give Sally a cuddle and try to relax…

Sweet Sally. Through it all she looks so kind and patient. Big kisses to you both.

That’s a lot of healing to do for one piggiedog, no matter how high-spirited! Is the donation button still available on your site? I say the Sally support team should help the Cash Fairies!

I have been working all day trying to come up with a special sally support package for etsy. I have the cards done, so now i have to work on the totes and t-shits and dog tags. you know anyone that draws? I need a sally illustration. ARG! haha.
i hope it is not as bad as it all sounds, but another surgery here…without discount…NERVOUS, Nini….very NERVOUS!

Clicked over from Flickr. I had no idea she had all those pins. Poor thing. But she seems to have a great spirit despite it all! Wishing her a smooth recovery and wishing you all Happy Holidays! If you lived nearby, I’d have you come do a photo shoot with my dog! But, alas, I’ll just have to pray to the Christmas Fairies for (or really WITH) you! 🙂

Great Sally photos….all! (well maybe not the x-ray, which looks pretty spooky!)
